Now Nora Knows…

Hi! My name is Nora Matthews and I recently completed an internship/project for school/really cool experience. As a sophomore in the International Baccalaureate program at North Mecklenburg High School, I was required to complete a personal exploration project of sorts. Goats had been my favorite animal for a long time before this project, but I had never really been to a farm or done farm-like activities before. I emailed Wish We Had Acres in hopes of a response, and I got one! Laura and Dave were so nice, and they were willing to form a set of activities around my project requirements. I knew that I wanted to learn how to milk a goat, so a different form of the Milk Maiden internship was the best option. Over several Fridays, I cleaned out a stall, trimmed hooves, milked goats, brought in new babies, bottle-fed those babies, and prepped for a soap making class. I learned so much about different species of goats and what all goes into taking care of the goats. I also took a great soap making class. There, I also learned about the healing properties of types of oils and clays. In conclusion, I had an amazing time at Wish We Had Acres! Dave and Laura taught me so much, and I hope to be involved in the future.
