Have you ever tried a fresh pecan? I’m talking raw, off the ground or straight from a tree, with a soft, sweet, and creamy taste and a light mocha flesh. Last week at the farm, I got to try my first raw pecans while I helped Laura and Dr. Dave collect these nutty gems from around their property. We collected them using old school pecan pickers from a neighbor who grew up on the farm. After sorting the good from the bad, we crushed a few with a cool piston looking nut cracker contraption. The rest of the nuts we laid out in flat containers to dry.

Who needs crossfit?

And who needs crossfit when you can literally, manually haul one ton of bricks? In preparation for Farm dinner on 11/1, this week we cleared pavers from the garage. The process might have been easier if the tires on our cart weren’t flat!

Lastly, this week I helped Laura wrap some of her homemade soaps. Look out for “Goblin” bars this week for Halloween and “Virginia Cedar” as a new fall scent! If you’re interested in learning how to make goat milk soaps, Laura is offering regular small workshops for you to handcraft personal gifts for the holidays.
